Summer Meal Ideas For Gastric Sleeve Patients

Most patients after gastric sleeve surgery have changed their eating habits and are following a more strict diet recommended by their surgeon for post gastric sleeve weight loss. That said as we move into summer, the gastric sleeve patients can explore some of the great flavors of summer and can add some summer fun into their daily routine.  There is no reason to miss out on some of these great summer recipes that full of nutrients and delicious flavors, in smaller portions obviously, that are perfect for gastric sleeve patients after their surgery.

It is not an easy task to plan healthy meals that work with a bariatric regimen but there are many tasty and healthy ideas; patients just need to have an effective meal preparation and portion-controlled meal.

Holidays sometimes stress Gastric Sleeve patients out. So, here is a few summer meal ideas to enjoy after your gastric sleeve surgery

  1. Shrimp Ceviche

This dish is a very traditional Summer Meal in Latin American countries. It is very easy to prepare, fresh, healthy, and delicious

  • INGREDIENTS

1 Pound medium precooked shrimp (cut into small pieces)

1 cup Key Lime juice (squeeze the key limes or the small green Mexican limes)

1 cup diced tomatoes

1 cup diced avocado

1 cup chopped onion

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh cilantro to taste

Optional: 2 fresh jalapeno peppers seedless and diced

PREPARATION:

Combine cut-up shrimp with diced tomatoes, diced avocado, chopped onions, (add the fresh jalapenos peppers also for heat if you want), stir in fresh cilantro, and add the key lime or Mexican Lime juice into the mixture and add salt and pepper to taste. Serve cold.

 

  1. Summer Roasted Chickpeas Salad

Summer is a great time to enjoy a fresh and seasonal vegetable salad with protein.

  • INGREDIENTS

2 cups of roasted chickpeas

1 cup grape tomatoes cut in half or quartered

2 Sliced or cubed avocado

1 English cucumber sliced

1/2 red onion, chopped

2 lemon juice

2 tbsp. olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

 

PREPARATION:

Dressing - In a small bowl, combine the lemon juice, olive oil, the onion and add salt and pepper to taste

Mix the chickpeas, avocado, cucumber, and tomato in a large bowl. Add dressing and cilantro to taste and enjoy.

 

        3.   Grilled Chicken Salad

  • INGREDIENTS

Grilled marinated chicken breast

1 Lettuce

Grilled bacon

2 Avocados

Corn

Low-fat cheese

Cherry tomatoes

PREPARATION:

The salad is tender marinated chicken that is grilled to perfection then served over lettuce with chopped grilled bacon, sliced avocado, corn, low-fat cheese, and cherry tomatoes. Add salt and pepper to taste

It takes great commitment to decide to eat healthier, but summer is meant for fun flavorful meals.  Remember that protein is your friend after weight loss surgery so make smart protein choices that are low in fat. During summer it is the ideal time to enjoy fresh vegetables and natural non-processed foods so that the patients can change their lives.  The key is to enjoy small flavorful portions of your favorite summer meals!
