*This surgery is not recommended for all patients.
Gastric Plication surgery, also called laparoscopic greater curvature plication, gastric imbrication, or pseudo sleeve surgery, is similar to the Gastric Sleeve in that it creates a smaller stomach and restrict the amount of food that a patient eats. The big difference between the Gastric Sleeve surgery and the Gastric Plication surgery is that with the Gastric Plication, the stomach is sewed in on itself in a wrap rather than with the Gastric Sleeve, where Dr. Hidalgo would just remove about 80% of the stomach. This surgery helps the patient feel fuller when eating, as the stomach area has been greatly reduced and ideally a patient will eat less and lose weight.
The Gastric Plication surgery is considered investigational/experimental and does not always have the results the patients are looking for. For example, the Gastric Plication typically results in less weight loss and may result in fewer health improvements, than the more established Weight Loss Surgeries. One of the benefits, however of the Gastric Plication, is that it does provide meaningful weight loss without the doctor having to remove part of the stomach or rearranging of the small intestine. That said however, it has mixed reviews regarding failure and complication rates amongst most medical professionals. The Gastric Plication surgery does not provide very effective weight loss and Dr. Hidalgo recommends you consider the Gastric Sleeve surgery in Mexico or the Gastric Bypass surgery in Mexico instead of this weight loss surgery option. Either of these two procedures should provide you with much better results. If you have any questions, please let us know and we will try our best to provide you with all the answers you may need.
